The Popularity of Dance Continues to Grow at Rapid Pace


Over the past few years, dance has become a vibrant and important part of our popular culture.

The embrace of dance can be seen on many fronts:

Dance Shows on TV

Other TV dance shows include Dancing with the Stars, America's Best Dance Crew, and So You Think You Can Dance.

Dancing with the Stars averages 20 million viewers per episode (source: Hollywood Reporter).

TV Commercials Feature Dance

An increasing number of TV commercials feature a variety of dance styles. Here's a commercial for Marriott Hotels:

Maria of A Time to Dance blog has an October 2007 post that includes a number of examples of TV commercials that feature dance.

Dance on the Internet

Online dance videos are among the most popular types of videos watched. "Evolution of Dance" has been viewed more than 80 million times. "Soulja Boy Tellem - How to Crank That" instructional video has 32 million views. And OK Go's "Here It Goes Again" has 32 million views as well. Ballet videos are popular too. The Anaheim Ballet's "Dancers" video has 2.5 million views:

Dance at Conferences

Dance performances are also a popular form of entertainment at conferences and conventions. Last year hip hop artist Kenichi Ebina performed at the TED Conference:
