December 8:
PARADISE AND ITS DIS-EASE
A Live Art Installation by jill sigman/thinkdance

PARADISE AND ITS DIS-EASE is a durational performance ritual using movement, sound, objects, and fluorescent junk foods. For 4 hours, Sigman will be "in the ring", as object, icon, mover, and substance; each hour will begin a new phase of the installation, addressing the decadence, deterioration, and dis-ease of our time in a different way. She will be accompanied alternately by DJ Joro Boro and composer/musicians Kristin Norderval (voice and electronics) and Gustavo Aguilar (percussion), and assisted by performative helpers Donna Costello and Jennifer Sydor. A live art installation, PARADISE AND ITS DIS-EASE is a hybrid gallery/performance/club environment. Join us for this experiment.

PLEASE NOTE: This is an ONGOING LIVE EVENT that changes slowly over time. Come any time. Stay as long as you like. Have a drink and hang out. Better yet, leave and come back again to witness it at different points during the evening. You can go across the street to The ARCHIVE Coffee Bar for a snack, or wander down the hall to Studio #215 to see PERMANENT PRESENT, a group show of visual art works by artists Gina Beavers, Marilyn Dizikes, Christopher Hines, James Reynolds, Justin Rymer, and Stephanie Rivers. Then come back and visit again.

From choreographer/artist Jill Sigman:
For years I have been allowing the material I am working to have different incarnations in different media. PARADISE AND ITS DIS-EASE is an installation which is also a stop along the way in the process of creating a new dance work. For me, durational explorations like this one are an important part of the process of creating something that may eventually look extremely different.

STOP BY OUR OPEN HOUSE!
Sunday, DECEMBER 2
2:30 - 7:30PM
Where: 1 Grattan Street (corner of Bogart Street)
    Bushwick, Brooklyn
    Studio #221 (second floor)
    DIRECTIONS BELOW

You'll be able to see video clips from previous work by jill sigman/ thinkdance, performance photos, and some of the bones, flowers, and alchemical diagrams we're working with for PARADISE AND ITS DIS-EASE. Come by to talk about the work, see the new space, and say hello.
Directions to 1 Grattan Street, Studio #221:
Take the L train to the Morgan Avenue stop (6th stop in Brooklyn). If
you are coming from Manhattan stay in the rear of the train. When you
exit at Morgan Avenue, take the stairs labelled "Bogart Street &
Harrison Place" (near the back end of the platform). When you exit the
subway onto Bogart Street, you will see a large yellow brick building in
front of you; this is actually the building the studio is in. Walk to
your right on Bogart half a block toward Brooklyn's Natural health food
store. Just past Brooklyn's Natural make a left onto Grattan Street. The
entrance (1 Grattan Street) is just a few paces in from the corner. We
are in Studio #221 on the second floor.

We hope to see you in December! Best wishes as winter approaches,

Jill Sigman
