About Funny Uncles

Funny Uncles, conceived and directed by Peter DiMuro, Producing Director of Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, is a blog that explores the reality of contemporary families through movement, video, theatre and the spoken word.

Peter is leading the way to help all of us change the old Currier and Ives image of the traditional nuclear family into a more real and more satisfying picture. He invites families of all kinds - straight or gay, adoptive, alternative, divorced, single, married or whatever - to bring their stories online. The vignettes expand our notions of what real families look like and do. Funny Uncles encourages people to "recognize the love, not worry about the differences."

DiMuro and professional dancers from Liz Lerman Dance Exchange - alongside many participants new to dance - adopt the gathered story material and weave it into their bodies resulting in innovative choreography and moving performance pieces. They mash it up online, in the studio, and on the stage!
