HOUSE PARTY, Let's Get Tangled

The countdown has begun and the Emerging Choreographers are at the less-than-one-month-to-the-show mark.  My plans of creating 3 new works for this show was, I suppose, a dream to grand.  However, the work that I have accomplished is fantastic and I will be proud to present POW!'s newest and (I think) greatest dance experience thus far.

Tangledblogpic.jpg

Let's Get Tangled is a hip-hop infused contemporary rendition of the energetic dances popular in the 1920's Jazz Era.  Within the highly rhythmic and detailed choreography, five women jive with a freedom reminiscent of the time where music and dance was essential to life.  As the girls tangle and unwind, the  visual inspiration of POW! PLAID! becomes more and more apparent.

I also will be presenting a new version of the company's signature Japanimation piece, POW! A fusion of video and live performance, POW! and The Bedazzlers features five sexy space-traveling heroines who transport you into the future from their influential existence in the 1960's British mod phase.  Inspired by the 60's sci-fi movement (Barbarella, The Jetson's, Austin Powers) I am taking my sexy space superhero team and traveling back in time, baby!

And finally, last but not least, we will be performing our #1 song and dance favorite.  The Gimmie Muney Hunnies, POW!'s modern Motown interpretation, celebrates the time when music, dance, fashion and collaboration united flawlessly within a single Detroit city block.  This funky triptych features a trio of talent with fast feet, hot pants, and live vocals sure to get audiences dancing in their seats.

And last but not least, we will be hosting our final fundraisor this Friday, June 20th.  We are only $150 away from our goal, and after this crazy HOUSE PARTY, I know we will make it! Festivities include a moving meditation led by Ashni at 9pm, old school dance contest BINGO with cash prizes, card room, Karaoke, live music and dance performances, and a candle-lit rooftop jam all night long!
