Using Internet to Facilitate Communications Among Dancers
By

How is/can the Internet be used to facilitate discussion, collaboration and communication among dancers? Are there websites, community boards, blogs and other resources that already fulfill this role? What new online offerings would improve communications among dancers?

This may sound too simplistic a comment, but to tell you the truth, I keep in touch with the kids who are dance students in my classes, via MySpace! As an adult student of dance, I found out quickly that if I want to communicate effectively with the younger generation, it would have to be on their terms.
I found out about myspace only last fall, when a young dance student asked me for my email addy, then if I was on myspace. I replied: "What is myspace"? And she laughed in disbelief, remarking "you don't know what myspace is?! the whole world is on it"!
So I got myspace right away and I see how much the kids are on it! Perhaps parents should be their kids 'myspace' friends, if they want better communication? LOL!
The bulletin system on myspace is a great way for groups to keep one another updated on events related to the group projects, endeavors, workshops, classes, etc. I have suggested to my dance dept directors, that they put up an official Grossmont College Dance Department MySpace Page for this very purpose; in addition to the promotion of the department in general. They are hesitant. But I think they are coming to see that if they want to be in closer touch with their young students, this is an efficient way to go about it.
that's my 2cents. :)
