Doug Fox

Doug FoxWelcome to Great Dance!

Hi, I'm Doug Fox. I created this blog in 2005 to write about the intersection of dance and technology. Essentially, I cover a huge range of topics related to how the Internet is being used or can be used by all participants in the global dance community for creative, educational, marketing and revenue-generating purposes.

In collaboration with Takoma Park, Maryland-based Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, we've just launched a dance performance blog for a new work "Funny Uncles." Peter Dimuro, the company's producing artistic director, is the choreographer. This new blog is an experimental initiative to explore new and different ways to share, communicate and collaborate with audiences prior to, during and after performances of this dance piece.

In November of 2005, I wrote a white paper, "Embracing Blogs: A New Blueprint for Promoting Dance on the Internet." This 24-page document, available free of charge, offers a specific game-plan for how dance companies can use the Internet to increase audience sizes, generate more revenue, get more press coverage, create more knowledgeable audiences, and inspire greater enthusiasm for all forms of dance.

Here's some more background about myself so that you can learn about my involvement in dance and the services that I offer:

- For the past two years, I've been taking jazz and now modern dance classes here in the Washington, DC area. Most of the classes I've taken have been at Joy of Motion. I started dancing at the relatively late age of 43 and I'm having a great time attending about 2 to 3 dance classes per week.

- I just had a wonderful time participating in a Liz Lerman Dance Exchange community dance performance of "Still Crossing." You can read about my experience.

- For the past twelve years or so, I wrote, spoke and consulted about the Internet and technology for the meeting and hospitality industry. I especially enjoyed conducting seminars and training programs about how the Internet can be embraced to enhance marketing and educational opportunities.

- Now I'm offering consulting and speaking services to dance companies, presenters, universities and other organizations who are exploring new approaches to developing participatory arts programs and implementing Internet-based marketing initiatives.

If you'd like to learn more about my consulting and educational programs, I'd be delighted to hear from you. Please email me or call me at 703-655-8456.
