Open Thread: How Do You Use Your Dance-Focused MySpace Page?

As you can tell from the new "Dance on MySpace" section in the left-hand column of my blog, many dance companies have created pages on MySpace, the popular networking site.

I'd be very interested to learn how dancers and dance companies are using their MySpace pages to promote upcoming performances and communicate with audiences.

If you have a MySpace page, it would be great if you posted a comment and shared some background about your dance company/dancing and discussed how you used MySpace to share video, pictures and other content with your readers.

myspace is great for seeing modern dance, dance in general but modern, post modern, performance dance what ever you want to call it...on video! get those beautiful images out there. locally, nationally, internationally dance needs help reaching the common audience and future generations of dance as an art form. use the internet, myspace, youtube to get out there. talk to each other talk to people. build a dance audience!

Doug's note: In addition to visiting Spank Dance's website, you can visit their MySpace page as well.

Thanks Ellen for your post.

In an October 17th post to her MySpace blog, Ellen shares her thoughts about what the Austin, TX dance community can do to build larger dance audiences. (Scroll about half way down post to get to this article.)

We are currently using Myspace as our primary hub for expanding our audience. I feel that there are many people who are interested in dance before they know that it is dance. We are looking to add people in myspace who share common interests and then direct them to our website through our comments or profile. Based on our analysis tool, it seems like our method is working.

Hi, can you add the Slaughter Project to the dance on myspace page you have listed, under modern dance companies?

Thank You!
