Dance Blog Map - Create Your Own Blog Diagram

Here's a first draft I created of a dance blog map. You can click following screen shot to see a larger image:

Dance Blog Map from Great Dance

My goal was to create a visual diagram that highlighted the key characteristics of dance blogs. I used an online application Bubbl.us to create this map.

If you want to modify my dance blog map, you can create a free Bubbl.us account and then import this XML file (click "menu" option on bottom right of screen once you log-in): download xml file to your computer.

Please share your thoughts? What changes/additions would you make?

This is really cool but I'm not sure how all the categories relate to each other or the genesis of it. Also, what is the intended use?

Maria,

Thanks for your question. I think the dance blog map is confusing as I look at it again. My goal was to create a visual diagram of the key characteristics and features of dance blogging. I should probably create separate diagrams that focus on different topics.

For example, a map could focus on the many different ways you can build an audience for your blog and thus for your future performances.

Another diagram could deal with how dance blogs can serve as a hub for implementing emerging business models - such as generating revenue from Internet video sales.

And another could highlight how people within the dance eco-system--dancers, writers, students, instructors, researchers, audiences--can communicate with each other in new and different ways by using blogs.

In terms of my specific objectives, I simply wanted to create a visual guide to thinking about dance blogging.

Doug,I love the comprehensive coverage of your blog map!! Most certainly, I would like to see this map implemented into an actual blog where each object might translate to a sub-site, and perhaps a site map to navigate the blog.
.
One area that I would like to see, and perhaps it might branch from "Community Voices", is a link for dance studio operators. I am sure that you will find a voice among us who teach ballet and run it as a business simultaneously. It would be refreshing and educational for established and newly established ballet teachers/self-employed biz owners to share both teaching and entrepreneurial experiences, problems & solutions, and such.

Yeah, I see your point about taking a holistic approach with all the distribution methods and features... It exemplifies what you've done with greatdance.

No offense, but we're taking a different approach with danciti. We assume that readers want information in concise clean bites, that they have about 30 seconds to get the news for the day, don't have time to discuss it and that they don't care about yesterday's news.

It's an experiment, we'll see how it goes.

Agnes,

Thanks for sharing your suggestions of having a blog/forum where studio operators/owners and entrepreneurial dance teachers can share their thoughts and experiences.

I think that's a good idea and worth looking into.

Danciti,

I don't think that there is really a wrong way or right way to cover dance - some people as you say want quick news items and they're happy. Others want more in-depth coverage and the opportunity to participate in a community.
