Accepting Performance Proposals: Exploring the Intersection of Dance and Technology

Great Dance LLC is now accepting proposals from local dancers and dance companies (Greater Washington, DC area) who would like to explore the intersection of dance and technology for an upcoming performance.

We are specifically interested in supporting and working with dance companies that want to leverage a range of technologies and the Internet in order to

- pursue new creative avenues
- reach out to larger and underserved audiences
- educate audiences about dance
- develop participatory, interactive communities
- create works based upon on-going user feedback
- expand dance performances in both space and time

To support this initiative, Great Dance will provide a range of technologies as described below and training on how to use the various technologies and applications. Plus, Great Dance will work with the selected dance companies to explore which technologies and applications best support the artistic visions of the dancers and choreographers.

The actual technologies and Internet applications that will be used for a specific dance company's performance will vary based upon the requirements of the work. But among the likely technologies to be used are the following:

- Weblog applications, hosting and design
- Digital camcorder and digital camera
- Video editing and digital picture editing software
- Computer for editing video and pictures
- Hosting of video and audio files
- Community forums
- Email lists
- Survey software
- Instant messaging and text messaging
- Mobile phones and handheld devices
- Other tools and technologies as needed
