About Choreographer's Carnival
Trinidad & Tobago. Home of the greatest, biggest carnival on earth. Also home of international choreographer and dancer, Makeda Thomas - a place to which she returned to after 20 years living in New York City. Through 'Choreographer's Carnival', Makeda Thomas shares this experience of returning home and the creation of Fresh Water - a new solo work that gets its title from the Trinidadian term for someone who acts American. Fresh Water is set in the stage of a mystical, multilayered culture of compelling depth of breadth and scope. Thomas's 'Choreographers Carnival' engage readers in the development of this extraordinary new work and the rich carnival culture of Trinidad & Tobago.
The weekly online series features workshop and rehearsal video, still photographs, research notes, and writings by Makeda Thomas. 'Choreographers Carnival,' which will be live from November 28, 2007 through February 6, 2008, is part of the Great Dance blogging platform for the dance community.
