So I started the 50 L a day experiment yesterday. I have to admit that I cheated by doing all of my laundry and house cleaning on Saturday before beginning the experiment. It is one of those time management things and this week just doesn't allow experimentation with different uses of time to fit in hand washing laundry each day. That being said I recorded my water usage yesterday and I ended up using 58 liters throughout the day. I am a little disappointed that I didn't make the mark. I had an unfortunate accidental flush which cost 6 liters of wasted water. Trying to change that habit... yellow mellow, yellow mellow...I think what I have realized so far is that so much of my water usage is simply what seems necessary by American hygiene standards, or maybe it is that my mother is a nurse and we grew up believing "cleanliness is godliness". So I am trying out the one minute shower and attempting to be more water conscious when washing the dishes, etc. Gratefully our shower heats up incredibly fast, and it was a nice surprise to find that I still felt the release of the day's tension after just a minute of hot water.
